Class 6 went toa Science Event at Woodbridge School today to learn about Fuel for the Future. A lecturer from the British institute showed the children lots of experiments about how electricity is generated and how things might change in the future. We now know how hydrogen fuel can be made from water and that hydrogen is very explosive!

Tractor visit - EYFS and KS1 12th Feb 2026

On Wednesday we welcomed Antony from White House Farm, Grundisburgh to speak to our children in EYFS and KS1 about the work he does on his Orchard. As part of the visit a Tractor visited school and the children were able to look in detail at how the tractor is used in harvesting.

KNEX Challenge 6th Feb 2026

Year 4 visited Woodbridge School to take part in the KNEX Earthquake Challenge. Previously, the children had learnt about earthquakes as part of their Geography lessons. They were tasked to work in teams to construct a building, using KNEX, that would survive an earthquake. A simulator was used to see!

We welcomed vicar, Mark, to our school assembly. Mark talked to us about his job and also shared some information about the meaning behind clothing he wears at different times.

Year 5 and 6 held a beautiful carol concert in St. Mary's church last night. All the children sang beautifully and there were some amazing solos. The handbells were wonderful to hear too. We finished the term with Carols around the Christmas Tree.

School was very merry and bright because we had our Christmas lunch and we wore our Christmas jumpers. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, courtesy of our wonderful cooks. Year 3 and 4 also went down to St Mary's Church where they made Christingles.

All children walked down to St Mary's Church in Grundisburgh. They completed different activities such as decorating a star and making a flag for one of the shepherds. It was wonderful to be able to visit the church and we thank Sandra, Ben, Will, Kate, Ann, Chris and Christine for giving up their time.

We were treated to two wonderful Christmas performances. The first was from Year R and was called One Snowy Night. The second was performed by Year 1 and 2 and called Mend the Manger. The children were all absolute stars and brought much joy to us and their parents / carers. Well done Year R, 1 and 2!

Year 5 enjoyed a trip to West Stow Anglo Saxon Village. They explored the museum and looked at artefacts found at the site. They even tried on some Anglo Saxon style clothing! They then explored the village built using the same materials and techniques that they believe the Anglo Saxons did.

During National Anti- Bullying Week we started the week with a bright and cheerful Odd Socks Day which celebrated that we are all different. Throughout the week children took part in activities in class and during assemblies. The theme this year was 'Power for Good' and we all met on the playground together to share this message.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service visit 4th Nov 2025

We are very grateful to the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service who came in to visit Year 2 who have been learning about the Great Fire of London. They were learning how the fire spread and how the fire service differs today compared to 1666.

Crucial Crew - Year 6 24th Oct 2025

Year 6 took part in “Crucial Crew”, which teaches them a range of safety skills, including:  fire safety, CPR, water safety, electrical safety and online safety. The children were all engaged and learnt lots of important information. They are well prepared to tackle a range of emergencies!

There were AMAZING pumpkin entries. The children were all very proud of their entries. It was incredible to see the creativity! There were so many fantastic design ideas and the children enjoyed perusing them all day!

Our Year 6 performed an amazing dance which they had learnt alongside our dance teacher Sam Moss. The children performed with such professionalism and teamwork. Every child in the school also had work displayed in the atrium showcasing some of their learning from the term in a gallery of work.

Ipswich Buddhist Centre visit 20th Oct 2025

We welcomed into school two members of the Ipswich Buddhist Centre. They shared some information with the children on meditation and Buddha. The year 6 children then continued their work with a small group session.

Well done to a group of year 5 and 6 girls who represented the school in a football tournament at Whitton Sports Centre. The girls played 5 fixtures, winning 1, losing 1 and drawing 3 games!

Harvest Festival 6th Oct 2025

On Monday some of our KS2 children went to St Mary's Church to celebrate. They sang songs such as Lord of the Harvest and The Little Seed. Year 6 also gave a presentation on the history of Harvest. Thank you to Mrs Cresswell who also came in to do an assembly with Key Stage One the previous week.

Our Year 6 PlayLeaders were trained by the School Games team. They will be on the playground soon with organised games for the younger children to play at lunchtimes. Well done to our PlayLeaders who were a credit to the school whilst being trained and thank you to Year 4 for trying out the games and activities!

This week we welcomed a member of the Ipswich Mosque into a whole school assembly. This was a great opportunity for the children to hear first hand about the five pillars of Islam and ask questions about the Islamic religion.

We were lucky enough to be visited by three string players who are members of the Academy of St Martin Fields Orchestera. They performed a variety of classical pieces from different times and countries. The talked about the violin, viola and cello that they played!

Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous trip to Essex Outdoors in Mersea. They camped out with friends whilst enjoying a range of exciting activities including zip wires, climbing and swimming. They demonstrated great perseverance, resilience and team work.

We sent U11 and U9 teams to an athletics event called Quad Kids. The children represented team Canada and had great fun competing in a distance run (U9s - 400m U11s - 600m), a sprint (U9s - 50m U11s - 75m), standing long jump and vortex howler throw!

We had 29 pieces of work on display in the John Gibbins Gallery. This was work that was chosen to be displayed as part of the Young East Anglian Artist competition. One piece was highly commended and two children from our school won 3rd prize in their age bracket!

Year 5 went to Woodbridge school for a Macbeth drama workshop run by their head of drama. They learnt about using different drama techniques to express emotions as well as delving deep into the story of Macbeth and finding out about William Shakespeare.

Year 3 had a marvellous time at the beach enriching their geography learning about coastal landscape. They spotted natural and manmade features and noticed signs of economic activities, including tourism. Fun was had testing water movement and wind speed, both elements involved in erosion.

Well done to these children who played superbly at a netball tournament. They won one match, lost one and drew all others. They played a form of netball called High 5 which meant that they rotated around all positions. Thank you to parents for supporting the team and helping with travel. Well done children!

Our tennis team played singles and doubles matches at Orwell Park. They played against Ipswich, narrowly missing out on a win by a couple of games. They then went on to win against Orwell and come third. Impressive individual performances, fabulous rallies and great sportsmanship. Well done to a selection of boys who represented the school at a Futsal tournament. Futsal is 5 a side football using a harder, smaller football. They boys played 4 games and won all 4! An amazing achievement.

Year 5 and 6 took part in an exciting K'Nex challenge! A local STEM ambassador visited and set the challenge of designing a fairground ride which could spin AND keep the passengers safe! There were lots of very creative designs (some safer than others!) Well done to all who took part, and congratulations to our winners, Lyle, Ted, Albie and Jamie!
