On Thursday afternoon our year 5 children hosted the annual French Café. The children took on the roles of waiters / waitresses and used their French speaking and listening skills to serve a range of food and drinks to their invited adults. It was fantastic to see the children displaying confidence in their bilingual skills!

n Wednesday, Class 3 had a wonderful afternoon outside as they toured the village, enriching their local history learning. They looked at the layout of the village and how it has altered over time, also noticing the change of usage of many buildings. They began to learn what it means for a building to be listed, observed the features of the older buildings and thought of reasons why we would wish to preserve a building.

Today we welcomed Sam a volunteer with the RNLI into our school assembly. Sam spoke to the children about the history of the RNLI, the roles performed by the RNLI and also gave the children some useful tips about ho to stay safe near the water. Year 5 and 6 KNEX Challenge 17th Apr 2026

Year 5 & 6 took part in the annual K’Nex challenge this week. A local STEM ambassador visited to set them a challenge using their science, technology, engineering and maths skills. Working in pairs, the children were challenged to make a rocket with a specific set of criteria. Great fun was had during the designing, building and presenting of the rockets. Well done to all who took part.

Today we welcomed Dr Reading into our school assembly. Dr Reading spoke to the children about his job as a GP and his pathway to achieving his job. He also shared examples of his work with the children. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and we are very grateful to Dr Reading for giving up his time.

Cross - Country 25th Mar 2026

On Wednesday 24 children from across year 4, 5 and 6 took part in the annual Cross Country Race at Royal Hospital school. Each race had over 150 runners and the distance ran ranged from 1.6km to 2.2km. It was great to see the children encouraging one another throughout the races! There were some fantastic individual performances!

St Mary's Church - Easter Visit 25th Mar 2026

On Monday the whole school visited St Mary's Church to take part in a range of Easter events to take part in “ Easter in a Box”. Each class was fully engaged imagining the scene being described to them. Using the clapper boards was a hit as were the wide range of crafts. We are very grateful to the team of volunteers who supported the children in the event.

Class 6 went toa Science Event at Woodbridge School today to learn about Fuel for the Future. A lecturer from the British institute showed the children lots of experiments about how electricity is generated and how things might change in the future. We now know how hydrogen fuel can be made from water and that hydrogen is very explosive!

On Wednesday we welcomed Antony from White House Farm, Grundisburgh to speak to our children in EYFS and KS1 about the work he does on his Orchard. As part of the visit a Tractor visited school and the children were able to look in detail at how the tractor is used in harvesting.

Year 4 visited Woodbridge School to take part in the KNEX Earthquake Challenge. Previously, the children had learnt about earthquakes as part of their Geography lessons. They were tasked to work in teams to construct a building, using KNEX, that would survive an earthquake. A simulator was used to see!

Year 5 and 6 held a beautiful carol concert in St. Mary's church last night. All the children sang beautifully and there were some amazing solos. The handbells were wonderful to hear too. We finished the term with Carols around the Christmas Tree.

School was very merry and bright because we had our Christmas lunch and we wore our Christmas jumpers. We enjoyed a delicious lunch, courtesy of our wonderful cooks. Year 3 and 4 also went down to St Mary's Church where they made Christingles.

All children walked down to St Mary's Church in Grundisburgh. They completed different activities such as decorating a star and making a flag for one of the shepherds. It was wonderful to be able to visit the church and we thank Sandra, Ben, Will, Kate, Ann, Chris and Christine for giving up their time.

We were treated to two wonderful Christmas performances. The first was from Year R and was called One Snowy Night. The second was performed by Year 1 and 2 and called Mend the Manger. The children were all absolute stars and brought much joy to us and their parents / carers. Well done Year R, 1 and 2!

Year 5 enjoyed a trip to West Stow Anglo Saxon Village. They explored the museum and looked at artefacts found at the site. They even tried on some Anglo Saxon style clothing! They then explored the village built using the same materials and techniques that they believe the Anglo Saxons did.

During National Anti- Bullying Week we started the week with a bright and cheerful Odd Socks Day which celebrated that we are all different. Throughout the week children took part in activities in class and during assemblies. The theme this year was 'Power for Good' and we all met on the playground together to share this message.

Year 6 took part in “Crucial Crew”, which teaches them a range of safety skills, including:  fire safety, CPR, water safety, electrical safety and online safety. The children were all engaged and learnt lots of important information. They are well prepared to tackle a range of emergencies!

Our Year 6 performed an amazing dance which they had learnt alongside our dance teacher Sam Moss. The children performed with such professionalism and teamwork. Every child in the school also had work displayed in the atrium showcasing some of their learning from the term in a gallery of work.

Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous trip to Essex Outdoors in Mersea. They camped out with friends whilst enjoying a range of exciting activities including zip wires, climbing and swimming. They demonstrated great perseverance, resilience and team work.

We sent U11 and U9 teams to an athletics event called Quad Kids. The children represented team Canada and had great fun competing in a distance run (U9s - 400m U11s - 600m), a sprint (U9s - 50m U11s - 75m), standing long jump and vortex howler throw!

We had 29 pieces of work on display in the John Gibbins Gallery. This was work that was chosen to be displayed as part of the Young East Anglian Artist competition. One piece was highly commended and two children from our school won 3rd prize in their age bracket!

Year 3 had a marvellous time at the beach enriching their geography learning about coastal landscape. They spotted natural and manmade features and noticed signs of economic activities, including tourism. Fun was had testing water movement and wind speed, both elements involved in erosion.
