Our school offers a curriculum which is balanced and follows the national curriculum requirements of the DfE. It promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school and helps prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
The school curriculum comprises all learning and other experiences that each school plans for its pupils. Maintained schools in England are legally required to follow the statutory national curriculum which sets out in programmes of study, on the basis of key stages, subject content for those subjects that should be taught to all pupils.
We ensure our curriculum is accessible for all and inclusive, complying with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.

Grundisburgh Primary School Curriculum Statement
Intent
At Grundisburgh Primary School our curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all our children to develop their curiosity, creativity and confidence so that they will become successful lifelong learners, who make a positive contribution to their community and the wider society. Within a happy, safe and caring environment, we promote and celebrate ambition and aspiration in order that every child is equipped for life in our ever-changing world.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced in order that it is inclusive to all of our children within the school community, regardless of ability and previous learning experiences. Each subject has key themes which run through the curriculum. The children will meet these themes repeatedly as they move through the school deepening their knowledge and understanding. It is designed to inspire enquiry, whilst continually building on a full range of skills, knowledge and vocabulary that will transfer across the different subject areas. Whilst the distinctive nature of each subject is valued, our curriculum has been created to avoid delivering the content in isolation by building links within topics, to ensure our children develop awareness of the complex world around them and their place in it.
Implementation
We teach most of our curriculum through termly topics. The content of our curriculum is sequenced to ensure that components of knowledge lead to conceptual understanding. We ensure children’s understanding and skills progress and develop by planning for each topic using agreed programmes of subject related skills, knowledge and vocabulary running throughout the school. These programmes are led by our subject leaders and key stage leaders, making links wherever possible across the curriculum.
Our long term plans ensure that children meet every topic once during their time at school, at the same time developing the skills and knowledge associated with individual subjects appropriate to their year group. Our curriculum is designed not only to cover the National Curriculum but also to embrace our locality and the wider world. Wherever possible visits, visitors and other enrichment activities underpin the children’s learning. Pupils have opportunities to share their learning with each other, their parents and carers and other learners through a range of events, performances, competitions and opportunities some of which involve working with other schools.
Our plans link to the National Curriculum objectives. Using these statements ensures we have practical coverage of the National Curriculum and enables teachers to evaluate the application of skills, check understanding and inform teaching.
The more able are challenged further in their learning and children who find aspects of their learning more difficult are appropriately supported so that they too are enabled to experience success. The curriculum is underpinned by the school’s core values and our British values. These are taught through other areas of the curriculum, including Collective Worship.
The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our pupils and their understanding of the core values of our society are woven through the curriculum. All subjects are taught in mixed ability groups across the school. In all year groups there are small group interventions in order to support pupils in gaining the key skills to become successful readers, writers and mathematicians.
Specialist teachers and instructors support music and physical education. After school clubs and events extend these opportunities further. The outdoor environment and the local community are considered an opportunity for active learning for all our pupils. The children will leave our school having made positive progress within their academic development and where appropriate will have achieved age related expectation.
Impact
Children will leave Grundisburgh Primary School as confident, resilient and creative life-long learners. They will take their place responsibly within the community, locality and the wider world having an awareness of the needs of others. They will be aware of the opportunities available to them and be prepared to aspire to take advantage of them.
